Win-loss · enablement

Closed-lost reasons are usually wrong

Industry studies keep finding weak alignment between CRM dispositions and buyer interviews. Treat the dropdown as a hint — then autopsy the notes.

Reps optimize for speed. “Price” is the fastest pick. Buyers often mean packaging confusion, a missing security path, a quiet champion, or an incumbent that felt safer — none of which your roadmap hears if you only roll up CRM codes.

What to do instead (this week)

  1. Pull 5 recent competitive losses with any free-text notes.
  2. Paste each into Deal Autopsy — capture top theme + decision line.
  3. Route themes: product gaps → PM, process → enablement, price perception → packaging, politics → multi-thread coaching.
  4. Update one battlecard bullet per theme within 7 days.
Do not rewrite the battlecard from a single “lost on price” row. Wait for a repeated theme across deals or a real buyer quote.
